Job Description:

Qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Conservation & Restoration, Engineering, or Archaeology
Experience Required: 7–10 years of relevant experience

Responsibilities:

  • Implementation of Artifacts conservation, treatment and restoration works using scientifically approved methods and internationally recognized best practices.
  • Apply best practices in conservation and preventive conservation, utilizing scientific methodologies, sustainable materials, and innovative modern technologies to ensure the preservation of the historical, cultural, and original values of artifacts.
  • Develop, review, and enhance procedures for handling sensitive, fragile, and damaged artifacts, ensuring the use of scientifically validated, sustainable, and innovative conservation materials and techniques in compliance with applicable international standards.
  • Participate in the development of the annual operational plan of the Conservation section, including defining objectives, conservation and restoration priorities, monitoring implementation, and preparing progress and performance reports.
  • Conduct condition assessments of artifacts, including examination, documentation, and reporting, and determine conservation priorities based on historical significance, conservation condition, exhibition requirements, and loan considerations, while submitting findings and recommendations.
  • Perform periodic condition monitoring of artifacts in museums and storage facilities, and buildings in archaeological sites, and report results and recommendations.
  • Carry out required scientific examinations and laboratory analyses of artifacts and archaeological samples in local and international laboratories, in coordination with relevant entities.
  • Prepare feasibility studies for conservation and restoration projects and develop treatment methodologies for damaged artifacts in alignment with approved international conservation standards.
  • Supervise implement conservation and maintenance projects for artifacts in storage facilities and museums, as well as archaeological building at archaeological sites by external teams, in accordance with international standards and best practices.
  • Preparing scientific research and studies aimed at developing new conservation methods and materials, in collaboration with academic and scientific institutions, including knowledge exchange, scientific publication, and participation in local and international conferences, seminars, and specialized workshops.
  • Participate in the development and formulation of policies, operational procedures, methodologies, strategies, standards, and guidelines related to the conservation and restoration of Antiquities, in alignment with international best practices, and ensure adherence to and implementation of these frameworks.
  • Participate in the packing, handling, and transportation of movable artifacts, ensuring safe procedures and compliance with best practices, in coordination with concerned stakeholders.
  • Execute and support archaeological lifting works of discoveries at archaeological sites in accordance with internationally accepted best practices.
  • Contribute to organizing and delivering training programs and workshops aimed at enhancing professional capacity and raising community awareness of the importance of heritage conservation, in collaboration with relevant authorities.
  • Enhancing academic partnerships and developing local and international cooperation through coordination with organizational units and academic institutions to support and develop scientific research in the field of heritage preservation.
  • Develop occupational health and safety regulations, quality and sustainability standards, ensure their implementation, maintain the security and safety of conservation laboratories, and ensure full compliance with approved policies and procedures
  • Prepare and update risk registers and mitigation plans, develop appropriate strategies for risk reduction and emergency response, enhance operational efficiency, and ensure business continuity.
  • Provide scientific and technical expertise and support in all matters related to research and Antiquities conservation strategies to all relevant organizational units.
